The Final Countdown...

We have come to what appears to be about the last to weeks of the project!  We are right on track for the 4th of July target I have kept in the back of my mind.  It is exciting to see a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.  We have had a few speed bumps along the way but have hot hit any road blocks.  At the end, it is going to be all worth it!

Below are a few photos from today...

And the bedroom...

And the utility room...

Marmoleum floor in utility room.  It is much more green than it appears here.

And the new den/TV room...

This is going to be our "bar"

and then there was Paint!

We decided that we would paint to save some money, but the weekend the basement was ready to paint, Mitchell had a "business" trip and let the state...  It seems a bit suspicious to me, but he tells he he really does love to paint!!  Once he returned from the trip, I graciously handed over the paintbrush and roller!  Our contractor did lend a hand and help me while Mitchell was out.  She even fired me from painting one day and took over!  I guess I am not that good at painting, but that is no surprise to me!

On Friday night of Painting, I decided to have a little party...  REAL coke and pandora...  The wild life I live!

Bathroom wall starting to be cut in.  The color is called "the harbor".  It is a nice pale blue

This is inside the closet, the color here is called "the loop".  It is a warm tan tone.

Kathy painting ceilings.  This is just prior to her firing me I think!  Oh and look who decided to show up and paint...

And some of the finished product...

Our bedroom.  The color is called "the loop".  This is the color in the closet and media room as well.

Bathroom with marble floor laying by shower wall

Utility Room...  Mitchell calls it "golden tan" Lowe's calls it "summer in the city" and I call it yellow

DUST, DUST and more DUST, I mean sanding drywall

I knew this was going to be one of the messiest parts, but I think we may have drywall dust with us for some time to come!  We sealed off the basement entrance from the rest of the house and that helped a lot, but it still felt a bit like a white Christmas in our house.

More drywall, but first lath and plaster DEMO!

In order to blend the drywall in with the lath and plaster in the stairwell to make it look seamless, there was some more DEMO! As much fun as demo can be, I'm not really too sad that I was not here to clean this mess up!

Flooring change

After ordering the Carpet Floor tiles samples, we decided against them.  They just did not keep the floor warm enough.  We decided to go with wall to wall carpet. Fingers crossed that the basement will stay as dry as it has for the past 13 years!   The carpet has been ordered and should be installed within the next two weeks sometime.  I will post photos when it is installed

Furniture shopping...

We decided to go look at furniture for TV room over the weekend.  We did not really set out with a plan of what we wanted or the style... and we went a little crazy...  I'll let the photos speak for themselves!

The Jobsite Super! (sorry Kathy)

Not much needs to be said, the Photo speaks for itself.  Zoie has actually handled all of this disruption better than her two dads!  We have the doorway from the kitchen to the basement sealed off.  Each night she paws at the plastic until we take her down and let her see what has gone on in the basement.  She generally sniffs around, does a perimeter check, and then heads back up the stairs.  The whole time we were planning this we were concerned how SHE would deal with the change, but I think we needed to be more concerned about us!

Carpet tile samples arrive

We are going to be using FLOR carpet tiles in our TV Room, hallway, bedroom, closet and on the stairs.  We have selected two styles of carpet in two different colors to use together throughout the space.  The carpet tiles are about 19" square with rubber backing and can be applied with double sided tape.  The great thing is you can pull up one tile if it gets soiled.  They clean up easy, air dry and can go right back down on the floor.  I ordered samples of the tiles to see what they look like in the space before we order 600 sq ft of them.  The samples arrived this week and I think they look great!  They are surprisingly soft too for how low the pile is.

More Drywall

There is very little drywall left to do at this point.  Below are some updated photos of the space as the walls become less "transparent".  The space really feels defined now! We hope to be painting by end of next week!

DRYWALL!!!

I came home tonight to find that the sheet-rock in our new bedroom is basically all up on the walls.  IT feels like a real room!!!  The drywall will all be complete by next weekend!  After that is PAINT!
